Greetings Bison,

Welcome to Howard University’s spring 2020 Accepted Students Day activities.  The faculty and staff of the Department of Music welcome you.

In 2014, the Department of Music celebrated 100 years of training some of the finest musicians in the world.  Graduates from our music program include Grammy Award-winning gospel artist Richard Smallwood, opera star Jessye Norman, music icon Roberta Flack, 2019 Lifetime Achievement Tony Award winner Harold Wheeler, and drummer for Prince and Beyoncé, Queen Cora Coleman.

The Department of Music offers the professional music degree (BM) in undergraduate studies in Performance, Composition, Jazz Studies, Music with Elective Studies in Business, Music Therapy, Music Education, and Music History.

As an alumnus of the Department of Music, I can attest to the stellar education received at Howard.  The faculty of the Department are some of the finest in the nation.  Whether you plan to major in Jazz Studies, Performance, Composition, Music Education, or any other area of music offered at Howard, you will be in great hands.

Please take the time to review all of the exciting opportunities the Department of Music offers on our website.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Musically yours,
