Alumnus Harold Wheeler Wins Lifetime Achievement Tony Award
06/09/19. The Tony Awards honored legendary orchestrator and arranger Harold Wheeler (B.M.'64) with one of three 2019 Lifetime Achievement Awards. Wheeler has written the music for 30 Broadway shows, and is currently represented on Broadway with "Ain't Too Proud; The Life & Times of the Temptations".

Rolanda Carter Attends NYU Summer Songwriting Workshop

5/31/2019. Rolanda Carter has been accepted into the New York University Summer Songwriting Workshop and awarded a scholarship. Roland is a third-year undergraduate student majoring in Composition. During the school year, she attends songwriting workshops conducted by Dr. Anthony Randolph, chair of the Department of Music, who encouraged her to apply to the NYU program.
College of Fine Arts Reinstatement Postponed

Howard University has revised its timeline for transforming the departments of Art, Theatre and Music, currently comprising The Division of Fine Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences, into a new College of Fine Arts. The change, which was originally scheduled to take placed on August 15, 2019, is now scheduled for Fall 2020. Under the new plan, there will be a dean, of the soon-to-be College of Fine Arts, who will report directly to the Provost. Art, Theatre and Music will continue to function as individual departments within the proposed college.
Faculty Pianist Natalia Kazaryan Played Smithsonian Concert

On Sunday, August 11, 2019, 3 – 4PM, critically acclaimed pianist Natalia Kazaryan performed at the summer Steinway Series at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Ms. Kazaryan was a student at the Julliard School and is now on the adjunct piano faculty at Howard University. She has received top prizes from the Eastman Young Artists International, Zosciuszko Foundation Chopin, and the New York piano competitions, and a "Sobresaliente" Award from Queen Sophia of Spain. Natalia focused on all women composers for her performance.
