On March 7, 2019, Dr. Arthur Dawkins, Professor Emeritus, spoke to students during the Department's weekly recital period. His audio-visual presentation introduced his Jazz Oral History Project, now available in the Moorland-Spingarn Library Collection at http://library.howard.edu/jazz/.
The Project comprises more than 290 hours of audio and video recordings of interviews conducted over a number of years by Dr. Dawkins and two others. The subjects are 15 of the major architects of modern jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey and Max Roach.
Dr. Dawkins also discussed the evolution of Jazz Education at Howard University.
